In the year 1785, this newspaper was founded with the name Augusta Gazette as a weekly newspaper. In the next year, i.e., in 1786, it was renamed as The Georgia State Gazette. This paper was later called as The Augusta Chronicle and Gazette of the State for few years. In the year 1873, Patrick Walsh owned this newspaper.
